Also the subject seems a little soft and slighly out of focus, and the boat to the right is very distracting, being much of the brightest part of the image, and the eye keeps drifting down and away from the subject. The flash lights up the subject in a flattering way, and the setting sun is creating a great great back light, separating the subject from the background. However, the dark rectangle (building?) in the background is distracting, along with the sun which is the brightest part of the image. Posing the subject in another angle, using a longer focal length, adding distance between the subject and the background would make those issues better. The image also lacks the impact needed for a higher scored competition image. Also the subject seems a little soft and slighly out of focus. The use of directional key light creates a dimension along with the subtle rim light, helping to gently separate him from the dark background. However, making more distance between the subject and the lights, and the background, would separate the image more, making the background darker and add contrast to the image. The image also lacks impact and a stop effect. I am not sure of the story, the meaning, of the image. The title says it´s about the leather jacket, but with the subject gazing up over the sunglasses and out of the image with his arms folded, the leather jacket is not what is catching the viewers attention. Feedback: This is a good attempt to achieve a different environmental portrait with a story! Using the surroundings around a subject to try to tell its story is a very good way of making an image. However this image lacks impact and a stop effect as a competition image, and despite of the choice of lighting, the image is flat and lacks contrast. Also, using harsh light on a blond subject is always a challenge, and here the hair hanging in front is creating hard, blown out highlights. Having the subject flip her hair behind her shoulders would keep this from happening. Lastly, the subject seems a little soft and slighly unsharp. But keep up the good work! Things that might help improve the score on this image are making sure things are as sharp as can be. It seems that the yacht could be a little sharper. Also the orange patches on the rocks at the bottom of the frame tend to draw the eye of the viewer down to them rather than focusing on the main subject – the boat. Perhaps if the image were cropped (horizontal crop maybe?) so the orange was excluded would have made for a higher scoring image. Nice effort.
